Free Block Party at Louis Armstrong House Museum, Thursday, August 25th

The Louis Armstrong House Museum's annual Jazzmobile Block Party on Thursday, August 25, 2016 features the Steve Kroon Sextet. Jazzmobile block party is the grand finale to the museum's Summer with Satchmo season. It's a free, family-friendly event featuring art-making workshops sponsored by the Queens Museum and hula hoop fun beginning at 4:00 pm. At 5:30 pm, Fulanito, the Latin Grammy nominated Merengue band will perform and warm up the crowd. Downbeat for Steve Kroon and the Latin Jazz Sextet is at 7:00 pm. The museum will be open late until 8:30 pm.

In an unprecedented collaboration, the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York City and the Louisiana State Museum in New Orleans have partnered on the exhibit: Satchmo: His Life in New Orleans to tell the story of Louis Armstrong's complex relationship with his hometown. The exhibit will coincide with the 100th anniversary of his first professional gig at Henry Ponce's in New Orleans in 1915.

Enjoy holiday cheer this year at the Louis Armstrong House Museum with the museum's annual holiday tours! In keeping with Louis and Lucille's tradition, the house will be brightly decorated. From December 3rd through December 29th 2013, house tours will feature rare audio clips from Louis's personal recordings of himself and family celebrations at home. The Louis Armstrong House Museum is offering special guided Historic Holiday House Tours beginning December 4th through December 30th with regular museum admission. These house tours will feature rare audio clips from Louis's personal recordings of himself and family celebrations at home including an at-home reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, A Visit from St. Nicholas.' The tours will also feature seasonal recordings including: 'Zat You Santa Claus" and Louis listening to Nat King Cole sing 'All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" with an impromptu duet by Louis himself.
