BIO

Maxwell Porterfield is a classically trained soprano who works in the operatic and musical theater world. Most recently she has played Julie Jordan in Carousel (Media Theatre), Eliza Doolittle in
My Fair Lady (Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre) and Christine Daaé in Phantom (Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre).

Ms. Porterfield received a Master’s degree from The University of Tennessee and a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Houston. Working throughout her studies, she made her professional debut in 2010 as Papagena in The Magic Flute with Sparkling City Light Opera Company.

Highlights from over twenty roles in her repertoire include Despina in Così fan tutte, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and Frasquita in Carmen. Having studied the Italian language for seven years, Ms. Porterfield’s fluency facilitates the ease with which she performs Italian repertoire, most recently as Zerlina in Don Giovanni.

One of her favorites, Blonde from Josh Shaw’s Star Trek Adaptation of Abduction from the Seraglio, featured her as an Orion slave girl who played opposite Spock! Her green skinned costume was almost as attention-grabbing as her sparkling high E-flats.

With a passion for drama that is specific to modern culture, Maxwell has gravitated towards the American operatic repertoire. These productions include The Beautiful Bridegroom, Cold Sassy Tree, The Consul, Rapture, The Box Office, and The Seagull. The most recent of which was singing the roles of Souffle Lady and Woman 1 in the premiere of Sweets by Kate, one of the first operas with a lesbian leading couple.
