Matthew White is a British actor, singer, and director who has made a name for himself in the West End and on Broadway. Born in 1973, White began his career in musical theater in the 1990s, performing in productions of "The Rocky Horror Show" and "Godspell" before landing his first major role in the 1997 revival of "Little Me."
White's breakthrough role came in 2000 when he played the lead in the West End production of "The Fix," a political satire about a fictional American presidential election. White received critical acclaim for his performance and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
Following the success of "The Fix," White went on to star in several other West End productions, including "Ragtime," "The Witches of Eastwick," and "Chicago." He also appeared in the original London cast of "The Producers" in 2004, playing the role of Leo Bloom.
In addition to his work on stage, White has also made a name for himself as a director. He directed the West End production of "Little Shop of Horrors" in 2006, which received rave reviews and was nominated for several Olivier Awards. He has also directed productions of "Sweet Charity," "Top Hat," and "She Loves Me."
White made his Broadway debut in 2012, playing the role of Bert Barry in the revival of "42nd Street." He received positive reviews for his performance, with The New York Times calling him "delightfully hammy."
In 2013, White returned to the West End to star in the musical adaptation of "The Bodyguard," based on the hit 1992 film. He played the role of Frank Farmer, the bodyguard hired to protect a famous singer from a stalker. The show was a commercial success, running for over a year and receiving positive reviews.
White's most recent stage work includes directing the West End production of "The Last Five Years" in 2016, which starred Samantha Barks and Jonathan Bailey. He also directed the UK tour of "The Addams Family" in 2017.
Outside of theater, White has appeared in several television shows and films. He had a recurring role on the BBC drama "Holby City" and has appeared in the films "Bright Young Things" and "The Inbetweeners Movie."
