BWW Review: Linehan and Ellis March in Step in Reagle Music Theatre's THE MUSIC MAN

Mark Linehan and Jennifer Ellis march in step in a glorious rendering of Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN to close out Reagle Music Theatre's 50th Anniversary Summer Season with a bang. Director/choreographer Susan M. Chebookjian's staging is seamless, with one production number after another showing off the ensemble's terpsichorean talent with challenging dance combinations, and Music Director Dan Rodriguez conducts a 12-piece orchestra that brings out the brio of Willson's score. The 1957 Tony Award-winning Best Musical still has lots of get up and go, with stirring marches and patter songs, romantic ballads, and a town full of characters as American as apple pie.

BWW Review: THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT JESUS CHRIST! AND OTHER CHRISTMAS TALES is The Raunchy Reason For The Season

Since The Boys of St. Matthews burst onto the theatre scene with their 2015 production of Tartuffe, they have been a reliable source of hilarity and dick jokes. Thankfully, the Christmas stories in JESUS CHRIST! let these young men do what they do best--kidnap teachers and put on the most offensive versions of classic plays they can. This time around, we get a mashup of Christmas Carol and the story of Jesus' birth with some exceptionally intense Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman thrown in. Also, there's a turkey. This is not a story for the prudish, as evidenced by the four people who walked out on opening night, but for those who want an excellent night out at a show that is so jam-packed with jokes you can barely catch your breath, get your tickets immediately.

BWW Review: BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S Charms at 2nd Story

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S is a literary and movie classic that always charms, and 2nd Story Theatre's production captures the setting and characters perfectly.  If you haven't been to 2nd Story lately, it's worth a visit just to see all of the changes.  The sets for this production, by Max Ponticelli, take the previous stadium seating configuration into a theatre in the round with brownstone facades, cobbled stones and a lovely balcony perfect for singing Moon River.  Every aspect of this production is so well thought out that you immediately feel like you've slipped into 1940's New York City the second you sit down.  There are a couple aspects of this production that dull the magic slightly, but overall, this is charming summer theatre that will also tugs at heartstrings.

BWW Review: Sidesplitting THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT LES LIAISONES DANGEREUSES

After last year's uproarious The Boys of St. Matthew's Present Tartuffe, Epic Theatre Company's boys are back in town with THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT LES LIAISONES DANGEREUSES.  For those who may be unfamiliar with the premise--the boys of St. Matthew's are a pack of Catholic school boys with a penchant for performing raunchy theatre, despite being told by their head of school, Father Frank, that they are not allowed to.  The result is a play-within-a-play jammed with jokes and visual gags that will leave audiences gasping for air between guffaws.
