Photo Flash: KISS ME KATE at the Broadhollow Theatre Company
Passions run high both onstage and offstage in Cole Porter's classic jazz musical 'Kiss Me Kate,' now playing at Broadhollow Theatre Company's Bayway Arts Center, soon moving to the Broadhollow Theatre in Elmont. It's the late 1940s in Baltimore, and leading lady of the stage and silver screen Lilli Vanessi battles it out with her ex-husband, actor, director, and producer Fred Graham, in a tryout production of William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew.' Sparks fly between the former flames, especially when young up-and-comers Lois Lane and Bill Calhoun get the entire company entangled with a $10,000 IOU debt pursued by two madcap mobsters. With romance, comedy, sophistication, and behind-the-scenes hijinks, 'Kiss Me Kate' is an enduring crowd-pleaser, combining the irreverent humor of two brilliant writers: William Shakespeare and Cole Porter.
BWW Review: BroadHollow's ASSISTED LIVING, THE MUSICAL
See, everyone? Getting older doesn't have to be boring or frightening. As depicted in the adorable production of Assisted Living, The Musical, it can be an interesting ride to embrace. For the satirical tale, creators Rick Compton and Betsy Bennett created an eclectic collection of characters, portrayed by two actors, to make light in reaching the twilight years living in a retirement community.
BWW Reviews: BroadHollow's THE RAINMAKER
The Rainmaker, BroadHollow Theatre Company's current offering, seems to be produced quite often; and that's ok. It's nice to break away from the glitz and fluffiness and see a raw, truly emotional play that makes you feel. The melodrama, by N. Richard Nash, is now running at BroaHollow's BayWay Theatre in East Islip, Long Island, through June 28th continuing at their Elmont location beginning July 11th.
BWW Reviews: BroadHollow's LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR
BroadHollow Theatre Company's production of Neil Simon's Laughter On the 23rd Floor was enjoyable. It's a refreshing, simple, semi-autobiographical play that is inspired by Mr. Simon's early career as one of the writers for the television show Your Show of Shows. The audience was also enthusiastically receptive although the insolent, drunk, middle-aged couple that was making-out across the aisle apparently wanted to be elsewhere.
