BWW Review: CATCHING COMETS, Pleasance Theatre
“I’m a part-time time-traveler!” Toby is an artist who moonlights (quite literally) in an observatory. While his job is generally a tedious keeping track of stars and making sure they haven’t moved, everything changes when he spots a comet that seems to be coming towards Earth. An action-film fanboy with a profound lack of confidence, when nobody pays attention to his warning, he transforms into a blockbuster hero. Meanwhile, in his personal sphere, a chance encounter at a party makes him fall in love with a girl who made “time melt”.
BWW Review: DROWNED OR SAVED?, Tristan Bates Theatre
Years after surviving the Holocaust, Primo Levi (Marco Gambino) is a haunted man who segregates himself in his study to try to come to terms with the terrible events he witnessed. He writes stories to understand them better, conjuring the prophet Elijah (Alex Marchi) to guide him through his recollections. The biblical figure, however, unearths the darker buried memories that prey Levi's persistent nightmares, making them become real once again.

Thirty years after composer Mark-Anthony Turnage and director Jonathan Moore's trailblazing opera Greek premiered at the ENO, it's apparent from this new production, part of Arcola Theatre's Grimeborn Opera Festival 2018, that it's lost none of the punchy, punk attitude that made it such an innovative tour-de-force.
