STE Presents THE SANTALAND DIARIES
Spectrum Theatre Ensemble (STE) of Providence continues their inaugural season with THE SANTALAND DIARIES & SEASON'S GREETINGS, by David Sedaris, adapted by Joe Mantello, and directed by Clay B. Martin (Providence, RI). When a down-on-his luck wannabe actor arrives in New York City at the end of the year, the only employment he can find is at Macy's department store -- working in Santaland for the holiday season, as a reluctant, but relentlessly cheerful, elf. Newly christened a?oeCrumpeta??, our clever anti-hero shares his observations of the mayhem in front of and behind the scenes during one chaotic December, from aggressive parents and drunken Santas, to flirtatious actors, poor hygiene, and the racially charged hazards of being a a?oePointer Elf.a?? Will Crumpet find a moment of pure Christmas spirit? The perfect Christmas treat for grownups, this one-man show has been an annual tradition at theaters across the United States for the past twenty years.
STE Presents ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST
Spectrum Theatre Ensemble (STE) of Providence will present ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, adapted by Dale Wasserman, from the novel by Ken Kesey, and directed by Clay B. Martin (Providence). The play tells the story of institutional madness where obedience and conformity are the only acceptable indications of good mental health. Randle P. McMurphy, a charismatic rogue, instantly questions the procedures of the asylum, a system at odds with the individual. The 'system' is most clearly represented by cold and calculating Nurse Ratched, and the play is presented from the perspective of Chief Bromden, who views the asylum as a giant machine that was built to control him and his fellow inmates.

BWW Review: Deliciously Naughty THE BEDROOM PLAYS
The first offering in Epic Theatre Company's Summer of Sex is a hilarious, unexpectedly touching and no holds barred original production called THE BEDROOM PLAYS. This series of ten short works gets increasingly racy with each offering, and the members of the audience have the option to tag themselves out in between each, if they feel like they can't handle the next one. Those that make it all the way through proudly get to share the social media hashtag #10for10. While some plays in this collection are stronger than others, as a whole it deserves praise for taking chances, equal opportunity nudity and an incredibly brave and talented cast who make every joke shine.

BWW Review: Epic Theatre Rules the Yard with THESE RUTHLESS BITCHES
Epic Theatre kicks off their page to stage season with a delightfully catty update to Clare Boothe Luce classic The Women retitled THESE RUTHLESS BITCHES. All of the original themes are still present: loyalty to men, the notion of the Ideal Woman, but everything is slightly sideways in that this re-telling takes place in a Women's Prison. Comparisons to Orange is the New Black are obvious and easy to make, but telling the story of upper class women in a prison rather than a parlor works surprisingly well. Instead of being captive by the rules of society, which may not ring as true for the audience today, these women are literally captive by the legal system and have merely transferred their social hierarchies and rules to a more drab environment.
Epic Theatre Opens 2015-16 Season Next Month
Epic Theatre Company begins its 2015 - 2016 "Back to Basics" Season with a world premiere satire-These Ruthless Bitches, inspired by The Women by Clare Boothe Luce. These Ruthless Bitches takes the story of high-class society ladies backstabbing and betraying each other over brunch and sets it in a women's prison where the claws are sharper and the battles are bloodier, but all with class and sophistication, of course.
