Henry Christensen III Retires as Chairman of TFANA's Board
Theatre for a New Audience has announced the retirement of Henry Christensen III as Chairman of the Theatre's Board, a position he has held since 2012, due to health reasons. Theodore C. Rogers and Robert Buckholz will succeed Mr. Christensen as TFANA's Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively. Mr. Christensen will continue as a member of the Board of Directors.

Civic and community leaders today marked the reopening of the historic Kings Theatre following an extensive $95 million restoration and renovation of the former movie palace and architectural gem. Originally constructed in 1929 and the largest theatre in Brooklyn with more than 3,000 seats, the Kings Theatre will serve as a fixture in the City's cultural landscape, presenting a wide spectrum of programming from local, national and international performing artists. An economic engine for the Flatbush neighborhood and the only major resource for live entertainment in the immediate area, the Theatre will present more than 200 performances annually.

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce capped off 2013 in magnificent style last night - hosting over 600 people at its Winter Gala (a record for that annual event) and announced it had reached the historic milestone of 1,500 members.
NYC Parks to Re-Open Brownsville Recreation Center Pool After $1.9 Million in Improvements
Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey will join Borough President Marty Markowitz and Council Member-elect Inez Barron to reopen the Brownsville Recreation Center pool after a $1.9 million renovation. After the ribbon cutting, center members of varying ages will jump in the pool and Parks Aquatics Instructors will lead a water aerobics class. It's all set for tomorrow, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11 a.m.

St. Ann's Warehouse Begins Construction on Tobacco Warehouse
This morning, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, St. Ann's Warehouse Founder and Artistic Director Susan Feldman, St. Ann's Warehouse Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson, St. Ann's Warehouse Board Chair Joseph S. Steinberg, Brooklyn Bridge Park President Regina Myer, NYC Council Member Stephen Levin, State Senator Daniel Squadron and others broke ground at the Tobacco Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The event signals the beginning of St. Ann's $27 million development of the historic building, originally constructed in 1861, into a 25,000 SF performing arts center and community hub on the Brooklyn waterfront. The Tobacco Warehouse will serve as a permanent home for St. Ann's, which has activated found spaces for cultural use in downtown Brooklyn since in 1980. The non-profit organization plans to present its opening season in the Brooklyn Bridge Park warehouse in Fall 2015.

'It was a year ago that Hurricane Sandy hit Brooklyn's coastline, leaving in its wake a path of unprecedented death and destruction. My staff and I walked through flooded streets across the borough and spoke with scores of business owners who had lost everything. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce wasted no time in helping those business owners fill out loan and grant applications as well as navigate the process.
