Ephrat Asherie Dance: ODEON Will Have its Premiere at The Broad Stage in April
The company jumped to the front of the dance world with ODEON, which layers breaking, hip-hop, house and vogue to the rich and buoyant sounds of fin-de-siecle Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, performed live. Rooted in street and social dance, Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD) is dedicated to exploring the inherent complexities of various African American and Latinx vernacular forms.
The Annenberg Center And NextMove Dance Present The Philadelphia Debut Of Ephrat Asherie
Ephrat Asherie, a a?oebona fide b-girla?? (The Boston Globe), brings her street and social dance company to Philadelphia for the first time, presented by the Annenberg Center and NextMove Dance, to perform Odeon, a high-octane, full-length work set to the music of composer Ernesto Nazareth, played live. A recent Bessie and Dance Magazine award winner, Asherie layers breaking, hip hop, house, and vogue to a rich score melding classical Romantic music with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. Performances are Friday, February 7 (8 PM) and Saturday, February 8 (2 PM and 8 PM). In addition to the three public performances of Odeon, Ephrat Asherie Dance will perform a Student Discovery show for schoolchildren on Friday, February 7 at 10:30 AM. Stew & Heidi Perform One Night Only Concert June 18 To Launch New CDs
STEW & THE NEGRO PROBLEM - the powerhouse indie rock band fronted by longtime collaborators Stew and Heidi Rodewald - will perform a one-night-only concert at THE TOTAL BENT/NATIVE SONG DOUBLE RECORD RELEASE PARTY, featuring selections from the duo's two most recent recordings, on Monday, June 18 at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker St.) in Manhattan.  Doors open at 7 pm for the concert beginning at 8 pm.
