BWW Review: Glimmerglass VIXEN is a Cunning Take on a Moral Tale
Anyone who loves Leos Janacek's gorgeous but grim operas--JENUFA, KATYA KABANOVA, MAKROPOLOUS--might be surprised by THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN. It's being presented, now through August, in a handsome production at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY.

BWW Reviews: Insight Theatre Company's Nicely Mounted 1776
It's only fitting that while we're celebrating Independence Day there's a production of the musical 1776 being staged by a local theatre group. After all, it's not has-been bands at local fairs and fireworks displays that we're supposed to be honoring on this particular occasion, but rather the principles which this country was founded upon. And, 1776 is an entertaining and informative show (book by Peter Stone, and music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards) that attempts to set this historical event to music. Although it's often uneven in tone, it's an engaging ride nonetheless, and Insight Theatre Company's current production is a solid interpretation driven by some fine performances.

Stray Dog Theatre Closes AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN 12/18
Stray Dog Theatre presents AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN by Douglas Carter Beane. Take a heavy dose of Auntie Mame, add a hearty splash of Sally Bowles, mix generously with the spirit of Holly Golightly, and you have one of the most intriguing, self-made celebrities of all time. When Alexa Vere de Vere sinks her claws into media 'hottie' Evan Wyler, sparks begin to fly. As illusion gives way to reality, this deliciously wicked satire takes aim at style over substance.
BWW Review: Stray Dog Theatre's Buzz-Worthy Production of AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN
Stray Dog Theatre provides the discerning viewer with more alternative fare during the holiday season with their fine production of Douglas Carter Beane's pop culture-driven work AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN. Beane's script is peppered with blisteringly funny lines that tumble forth with reckless abandon, often going nearly unnoticed until they resonate later. Stray Dog's production of this clever and amusing work is a real delight, smartly staged and filled with strong performances.
