BIO
Martin was born and bred in Manchester and trained at the Abraham Moss Centre. He joined the touring company of Chess and played the part of the Arbiter for a number of performances. He then went into pantomime as an Ugly Sister, followed by a national tour of My Fair Lady. He returned to Manchester to play Cucurucu in Marat/Sade before joining the tour of Aspects of Love followed by Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in which he played the part of Issacher.
Martin appeared as Pumblechook in Great Expectations in Birmingham and then came to London to play Oliver Webb in On the 20th Century at the Bridewell Theatre. This was followed by his first West End appearance as Annas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Lyceum Theatre and he subsequently took over the part of King Herod in that production and in the 2004-2005 national tour.
He appeared as the Father/Father Christmas in Dear Father Christmas at Hammersmith, and John at the Arts Theatre in When Pigs Fly and in Black Goes With Everything at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley. He played the part of the Typesetter in Personals (first at the New End Theatre, Hampstead and later at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue), Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls at the Crucible Theatre, toured in the Royal National Theatre’s production of Honk! The Ugly Duckling, played Amos on the international tour of Chicago for two years and played the Beadle in Sweeney Todd at
Derby Playhouse.
Television credits include: Prime Suspect, Concrete Chariots for
Granada playing Mike Perry, GBH for Channel 4 and the part of the Roasted Cygnet in Carmina Burana also for Granada. He also plays Asher in the video of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Martin has been performing with the City Concert Orchestra in a series of concerts across the UK (an album of songs from the concerts is available from the City Concerts website www.cityconcert.com). He can also be heard on the cast albums of Jesus Christ Superstar, Personals, Dear Father Christmas and on the soundtrack for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Recently Martin has appeared as
Uncle Henry/Emerald City Guard for Birmingham Rep Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse productions of The Wizard of Oz and at the Hackney Empire with the BBC Concert Orchestra for a second year in Sing-a-Long-a-Musicals.
