BIO
Marquis Bundy is an actor, choreographer director, and recent Chicago transplant from Des Moines, Iowa, where he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School (May 2021). After graduation, Marquis decided to leave home to study Musical Theatre Performance at Columbia College Chicago. In April 2022, he decided to leave Columbia and work independently in the industry full time. He enjoys making coffee, reading, playing video games, and spending time with his friends making art.

In college while studying theatre, I was introduced to a new world, the world of children's theatre. While many shows in that world are based on well-known stories, once and a while you would see a play that tackled a topic that might be difficult to talk about, and present it on stage in a kid friendly way. When I heard 'Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical' was going to be performed at Des Moines Playhouse, I was very intrigued. From what I could see, this show wasn't based on a well-known book like many of the Kate Goldman Children's Theatre's shows. So I was intrigued as to what topic might be presented in this play.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse held the 2020 Dionysos Awards, virtually, on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020. The theatre honored eight backstage, guest services, and education volunteers, and announced eight acting awards. The evening began with a number from the theatre's Celebration of the Century, held on Nov. 2, 2019, and concluded with a song from 2018 Dionysos Award double-recipient, Blake Clyde.

Looking for the light in the dark times we face can be very difficult. In 1942, a girl went into hiding with her family, along with another family, from the Nazi's who had invaded Holland. While in hiding the girl kept a diary of her experience, which after her death would become the most read books in the world. 78 years after starting her diary, her story can be seen on stage in Des Moines Playhouse's beautiful production of a?oeThe Diary of Anne Franka?? which opened this last weekend. Their production comes at just the right time as the day this review comes out, we will be pausing for International Holocaust Memorial Day.
