Working Theater Names Laura Carbonell Monarque Producing Artistic Director
Drama Desk and AUDELCO award-winning off-Broadway company Working Theater has named Laura Carbonell Monarque to serve as Producing Artistic Director in advance of the company's 37th season. Monarque will succeed co-Artistic Directors Tamilla Woodard, recently named Chair of Acting at Yale School of Drama, and Mark Plesent, who led the Company for 27 years until his passing in February.

In honor of their upcoming touring production of Adam Kraar's Alternating Currents, Working Theater (Mark Plesent, Producing Artistic Director) will host community engagement events in each of the five boroughs. Community Dialogue events will focus on the dominant theme of the play; how communities deal with increasing diversity. Each event will center around a shared meal and conversation guided by Working Theater's Community Engagement Coordinator, Tricia Patrick.

Working Theater, the Off-Broadway company that in 2013 staged a production (about undocumented workers crossing the border to find work in this country) in the confines of an actual 48' trailer truck, will once again shed a unique light on a group of individuals rarely portrayed on stage.
