MARK FIFER
Steeped in the classics and seasoned by Rock, Blues, R&B, Jazz, and the American Songbook, Mark brings singular perspectives to making music POP on stage, in the studio, and on camera.
Mark has served as Musical Director and/or Supervisor on NYC and regional productions of The Who’s Tommy, Rent (Hangar, Reg. Premiere), Fame The Musical (Macao), Side by Side by Sondheim (Riverside), The Rocky Horror Show, Our Town 75th Anniversary (Actors Fund/EFA), Tits Fisher with Kitten’s Kiss, Grace. Period. (Joe's Pub, Beehive), Hello Again, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Cabaret, God Hates This Show, Samantha Brown, Whiskeyland, and countless other musicals. In Concert w/: Andrea Burns, Audra Isadora, Mary Birdsong, Darlene Love, Maggie Moore, David Hyde Pierce, Eartha Kitt, Jerry Herman, Kim Stern, Ric Ryder, Valerie Lemons, Emily Swallow, Kyra Selman, VP Boyle, more. Benefit concerts (arrangements and piano) for the Stella by Starlight Gala, Actors Fund, Westport and George Street Playhouses, Hole in the Wall Gang, and others.
Currently Mark is Arranger/Music Supervisor for Little Girl Blue (George Street, Goodspeed, Off-Broadway Feb. 2022), a unique musical drama about the life of the legendary Nina Simone. Musical Director for Iraqi Rose: A New Musical by Larry Kirwan (Paradise Square).
Mark serves as a Vocal Coach to dozens of actors with Broadway, film, TV and recording credits. His pop/rock transcriptions can be found in hundreds of audition books in NYC, LA, and beyond. He has contracted, scored and orchestrated studio projects in the theater, rock, and R&B genres, as well as Comedy Central, Netflix, and more. He is currently on the faculty of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting (NYC), and previously served on faculty at Pace University and Jacksonville State University. He has been Vocal Director for Carnival Cruise Lines Playlist Productions since 2012. Mark also served as brass arranger and program coordinator for the Spirit of Atlanta (JSU) Drum & Bugle Corps.
Mark holds a B.A. in Film from Penn State, M.M.E. from Jacksonville State University, and a certificate from the UCLA-Extension Film Scoring Program. He and his wife Bess, a casting director, have been based in New York City for nearly 2 decades.
