Birth Place: elizabeth, NJ
A powerhouse performer from New Jersey, Margaret has been singing, dancing, and acting for as long as she can remember. Unable to picture herself doing anything else, she studied theatre at Wagner College in Staten Island where she was lucky enough to get cast in at least one of their mainstage musicals every year she was there. At Wagner, she was seen on the mainstage as "The Acid Queen" in TOMMY, "The Beggar Woman" in SWEENEY TODD, "Donna/Oollie" in CITY OF ANGELS, and "Eva Peron" in EVITA. After graduation, Margaret decided to put all of her energy into recording and songwriting. She was lucky enought to be asked to participate on the world famous APOLLO THEATER stage in AMATEUR NITE AT THE APOLLO, where she was a finalist and asked to be a standby performer for the television show SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO. She was unable to standby because, fortunately, she was chosen to be a part of the first cast of the National Tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR,starring Ted Neely and Grammy winner Corey Glover. After a year of being on tour and realizing how much she missed being a part of the theatre world, Margaret booked a leading role in the short film THE TOLLTAKER and then was off to Europe, where she performed in productions of SHOUT, AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND, TONY N' TINA'S WEDDING and SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE. Now conquering the west coast, Ms. Spirito is trying to cross over into the on-camera world, without turining her back on her musical theater backround. Currently, here in Los Angeles, Margaret is a part of the critically acclaimed "FOR THE RECORD" series at Show at Barre in Los Feliz, performing alongside some of Broadway and TV's best and paying homage to film directors such as Baz Luhrmann, the Coen Brothers, and most recently, Quentin Tarantino. Margaret tends to not blend in with the rest, but you quickly realize that is what makes her special. While some have already peaked, Margaret M. Spirito is just getting started.
