Billy Childs Named President of Chamber Music America
Chamber Music America (CMA) today announced the appointment of pianist and composer Billy Childs as president of its board of directors, effective July 1. Childs is the organization's ninth board president, and the first jazz musician elected to the position. The CMA board of directors unanimously approved his first three-year term at its June 6th meeting.
Orion Ensemble to Celebrate National Chamber Music Month with Performances in St. Charles, Chicago & Evanston
The Orion Ensemble's final performances of its season of "Musical Travels" will be part of the celebration of National Chamber Music Month, a nationwide initiative to draw attention to small ensemble performance. Orion's performances are among hundreds taking place across the country this May as part of this second annual series. Last year, participants in all 50 states took part in events showcasing ensemble music of all styles, including classical, jazz, world and early music, as well as contemporary and experimental works informed by emerging technologies and innovative performance techniques.
Musiqa Receives CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming
Contemporary classical ensemble Musiqa has received the Chamber Music Association/American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (CMA/ASCAP) Award for Adventurous Programming of contemporary music for 2013. The award, one of the most prestigious music awards in the nation, is given to just eight recipients annually.
