The Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) was founded in 2001 on this basis: to bring a collection of new American works that, in their words, 'speaks to a whole generation whose lives defy categorizing along conventional lines.' In its attempts to bring the spirit of real playwrights and characters to the stage, DUAF has been recognized as one of the world's best festivals for new works - a platform well known for the freedom it provides for artistic expression. Twenty years have passed since its founding, and what better way to celebrate such a pillar of New York theater than with the newly introduced 2022 lineup of new works - a month-long showcase of raw talent that has already undoubtedly left its mark on a New York audience.

Longtime New York commercial and short film director Jack Danini has finished his first feature film, an energetic, broadly appealing, Broadway-inspired musical called ODE TO PASSION. The film will have its world premiere at the Queens World Film Festival Saturday, March 21 at 4:45PM at the state-of-the-art Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) Redstone Theater, located at 36-01 35 Ave, Astoria, NY 11106 (718 777 6888) in Queens. After collaborating with David Rabe on their acclaimed revival of In the Boom Boom Room last month, Chain Theatre is turning its focus on developing a new play. Singin' All Night tells the story of an autistic African American teenager who has been accused of a horrific crime. Two young attorneys are broke, desperate and take his impossible case. But everything changes when they realize he can communicate through music. Join us for the WORLD PREMIERE reading/ workshop presentation of Singin' All Night written by Artistic Director Kirk Gostkowski. Chain Theatre will be performing a lightly staged reading of the new play as well as celebrating the 2017 Chain Theatre season. Talkback with creators and performers to follow presentation.
