Writing in the 1930s, Lewis, an acclaimed socially conscious author, adapted his best-selling novel of the same name into a play as a warning. His message? Do not elect a fascist to the American presidency.

Now a major motion picture, Letts' dramatic comedy also won the Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, the New York Critics Drama Circle Award for Best Play and other honors. A crisis reunites members of the dysfunctional Weston family. In times of crisis, most families turn to one another. For the Westons, it's a chance to air dirty laundry and resurrect old grievances.
