SEUSSICAL Opens 1/30 at Gallery Players

Gallery Players continues its 49th season with the Seussical, the fantastic family musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss.  Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once On The Island and Ragtime)  have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite characters, with a rich and dazzling score to create an almost entirely sung-through show that transforms the theatre into the Jungle of Nool, the Circus McGurkus, the invisible world of the Whos, and beyond.  Seussical will be helmed by Barrie Gelles, with musical direction by Trevor M. Pierce.  Opening night will be January 30th at 7:30PM.

As Gallery has developed a reputation for reimagining these iconic pieces, President Mark Harborth (Chess, Dreamgirls) promises a unique experience for audiences already familiar with the show. 'You won't see a striped winter scarf in this production (or a sexy Santa suit for that matter) but you will hear every note of Jonathan Larson's passionate score performed by one of the most dynamic and talented casts and orchestras Gallery has assembled.'

Horse Trade Theater Group to Host 2nd Annual CABARET ALL-STARS SHOWDOWN, 2/9

The Cabaret Showdown is a monthly game show that offers a unique mixture of live karaoke and Jeopardy. Contestants are asked to sing selections from various musical categories listed on the Official Game Board with no knowledge of what the song will be until right before they sing. To level the playing field all songs are popular standards, each contestant is given a copy of the sheet music and accompanied by a live pianist. The winner receives a free booking at UNDER St. Marks for their very own showcase. Whether you are a contestant or in the audience you are guaranteed to have a blast!

'Broadway Charity Songs' has paired a group of award-winning musical theatre composers with a group of outstanding charities and tasked them with composing an original piece that each prospective charity could use for fundraising purposes. The result is a group of songs gifted to the charities - with the hope that the songs 'go viral' while increasing awareness for these outstanding organizations. The concert will take place tonight, March 25th, 2013, 7:30pm at Le Poisson Rouge.
