BIO

MAURICE McRAE is a stage and screen actor who currently resides in New York City.



Originally hailing from San Francisco, he discovered acting while attending Morehouse College as a pre-med student. He later received his MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University at the top of his class.

Maurice's theatre credits span both coasts, including a brief stint on Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway play SWEAT (Studio 54). His Off-Broadway include SPILL (Ensemble Studio Theatre), COLLAPSE (New York City Center) and WILD WITH HAPPY (The Public Theatre); he's performed regionally in MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (Baltimore Centerstage & Philadelphia Theatre Company), MARCUS; OR THE SECRET OF SWEET (City Theatre of Pittsburgh), and THE PIANO LESSON (Long Beach Playhouse in Los Angeles). He also enjoys collaborating with notable writers and directors on emerging works, most recently participating in workshops for HOME IS A VERB (Ensemble Studio Theatre).

On screen, Maurice has made multiple television appearances, including "RANDOM ACTS OF FLYNESS," "ELEMENTARY," "NYPD BLUE," "BAYWATCH," "JAG" and "24;" he also recurs on the web series "AWKWARDLY."

His first feature film, FINDING HER, was nominated for Best Feature Narrative at the Vail Film Festival and showcased at the American Black Film Festival. The film also stars Johnny Whitworth (Limitless, "CSI: Miami"), Jeremy Holm ("House of Cards") and Afton Williamson ("Banshee"). He also appears in the feature films MY OTHER HOME with Loretta Divine and NIGHTHAWKS with Kevin Zegers ("Notorious").

Sundance Institute announced today the acting company participating in its 2011 Theatre Lab held at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada from March 27-April 17. The Theatre Lab provides an atmosphere focused on artistic development and collaboration to develop and refine new theatre work with the support of full casts. Building upon the Sundance Institute's history of cultivating international exchange and dialogue, the 2011Theatre Lab projects and participants illustrate and explore the world's most innovative storytelling. A record number 89 artists began their Lab experience on World Theatre Day, bringing works from the United States, Mexico, and Tanzania to the three week workshop. Sundance Institute is grateful for the assistance of the Performing Arts Residency Program at The Banff Centre.
