Patrons of 54 Below glimpsed a special piece of New York City history with its presentation of DAVID JACKSON & DAVID WHITE: COTTON CLUB CONFIDENTIAL on February 15, 2024.  Each a Broadway veteran in their own right, David Jackson and David White brought the famed ambiance of the Cotton Club of the 1920’s and 30’s to life in 21st century midtown Manhattan.

A drama about an acting troupe performing a controversial play and a world premiere musical about life in Cuba past and present garnered the most nominations for the 43rd annual Carbonell Awards, which honor excellence in theater in South Florida.  Indecent, produced by Palm Beach Dramaworks in West Palm Beach, earned nine nominations, and Havana Music Hall, produced by Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, earned seven.

Hard to believe, but it's been four years since we sat down with Jeremy Benton, whom we've since referred to as Broadway's Best Tap Dancer every chance we've had, and now it seems as that title has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Just yesterday, Benton - a native of Springfield, Tennessee - was honored with a nomination for a Fred and Adele Astaire Award in the category for best off-Broadway male dancer, heralding his critically acclaimed role in Cagney, the Musical.

New Play CHATTING WITH THE TEA PARTY to Open in January at Robert Moss Theater

CHATTING WITH THE TEA PARTY, a documentary-style play by playwright Rich Orloff (Funny as a Crutch), based on interviews he conducted with leaders of Tea Party groups around the country, will have its world premiere and begin performances at The Robert Moss Theater (440 Lafayette Street, 3rd floor) on Saturday, January 30th. Westchester Broadway Theatre is taking audiences back to the glory days of Hollywood's Golden Age with its upcoming production of Lynnette Barkley and Christopher McGovern's Backwards in High Heels: The Ginger Musical, running August 13-September 20.
