Spelman College Department of Dance Performance and Choreography Teaches Through the Lens of Black Feminist Theory
Spelman College's newly formed Department of Dance Performance and Choreography has chosen a unique approach to teaching the next generation of dancers, choreographers and change makers by accentuating Black feminist theory. As a result of integrating the works of notable Black feminist writers and activists such as bell hooks and Audre Lordethroughout the curriculum, the department is cultivating freethinkers and intelligent movers interested in becoming influential creators, writers, historians, educators and scholars within the evolving field of dance.
Spelman College Museum of Fine Art Launches 2017 Season
Through incisive considerations of site, history, biography, and portraiture, Beverly Buchanan (1940 2015) produced landmark bodies of work, including cast concrete and mixed-media sculptures, drawings and books, and evocative paintings and photographs. 'Beverly Buchanan Ruins and Rituals,' on view September 14-December 2, 2017, at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art.
Spelman College Glee Club Joins Dance Theatre of Harlem at the Cobb Energy Center
The Fox Theatre and Cobb Energy Centre are excited to announce Atlanta's much heralded Spelman College Glee Club will be joining Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) for two live performances on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. Supporting DTH for the first time with a live backing vocal performance, the Glee Club's seventy-five (75) acclaimed singers will accompany "Change" choreographed by Dianne McIntyre, a former Spelman College Distinguished Visiting Scholar. The group will be performing Two Negro Spirituals: 'By and By' arranged by Roland Allison and 'Don't You Let Nobody Turn You Around' arranged by Dr. Kevin Johnson, director of Spelman College Glee Club both nights.

Christ Church Cathedral is hosting A Few Acres of Snow, a free (donations happily accepted) community outreach event, on January 24, 2014 at 7:30pm. The evening of winter-themed readings and performances features songs, musings and tales by Canadian artists. The public is invited to this majestic building, located in the heart of downtown Montreal, transformed for the occasion into a cozy, live poetry lounge.
