This November marks the 20th Anniversary of the Django Reinhardt NY Festival at Birdland Jazz Club, produced by Pat Philips-Stratta and her late partner, conductor Ettore Stratta. The festival, which began in 1999, has featured many talented musicians over the years who embody the gypsy jazz style of music by the great Django Reinhardt. Of these was guitarist Dorado Schmitt.

Instead of immediately following up his hit 2013 urban jazz album Bleu Horizons with a like-minded sequel, guitarist Craig Sharmat immersed in the music scene of his new adopted hometown of Santa Barbara and formed The Idiomatiques - which became the first Gypsy Jazz band in history to score a hit on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart with the track 'C'est La Vie.'

Carrying forward the 'Hot Jazz' legacy of the great Django Reinhardt, this internationally renowned group features one of Europe's greatest musical families, guitarist/violinist Dorado Schmitt and his son Amati. The family is joined by virtuoso violinist Pierre Blanchard and accordionist extraordinaire Ludovic Beier, who 'played as great a solo on his accordion as Toots Thielemans at his zenith' (Downbeat). 'Dorado Schmitt's virtuosity was on full display via lightning-fast finger work, powerful strumming, wild sweeps across the fingerboard and astonishingly fast tempos. Schmitt displayed complete mastery of Gypsy jazz guitar technique' (Los Angeles Times).

Legendary gypsy great Dorado Schmitt from the Alsace region of France returns with the joy of playing alongside his two sons Samson & Amati, guitar virtuosos of the style. Dorado turns more and more to violin, taught to him by his father as in the gypsy tradition and is passing the torch. The Band is 'on fire', ripping thru hot swinging numbers and will break your heart with a ballad, influenced musically by the top French Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli as well as America's Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.
