Lou Volpe's show is full of good rhythm feel with guitar virtuosity and a unique sound is the backdrop for spirited and soulful versions of songs from the Sinatra era to Clapton & Santana, to Sting & Michael Jackson, with a salute to jazz greats and pop stars (many of whom Lou has played with) along the way. Some exciting originals are also part of Lou's personable & inspiring show, including a sampling of his new music from his soon to be released CD, BEFORE AND AFTER (Jazz Guitar Records), BEFORE AND AFTER will release October/November.
Bucks County Playhouse Announces The New Playhouse Institute For Educators
Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) has announced the launch of The Playhouse Institute, a new educational arm of the non-profit Playhouse designed to offer training for constituencies ranging from professional educators to members of the corporate community by utilizing theater and communication skills. Participants in the Institute will receive continuing education credits as The Playhouse was recently certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as an Act 48 provider.

Lou Volpe, the retired theatre education pioneer was recently inducted into the prestigious Bucks County Playhouse Hall of Fame, following such honorees as Angela Lansbury, Oscar Hammerstein and Shirley Jones. A formal ceremony was held on April 14 at the historic playhouse. Volpe, whose career is the inspiration behind "Rise," the new TV series on NBC, was heralded for his life's work as a high school drama teacher at Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, PA. During his tenure there, he transformed this Bucks County community with the magic of theater.

The gala performance was followed by a seated dinner at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum (750 Ninth Street NW). The evening included the presentation of the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal to actor James Earl Jones and the U.S. House of Representatives' longest-serving member, The Honorable John D. Dingell. The award was given in recognition of their extraordinary character, service, accomplishments and work reflecting Lincoln's legacy of humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision.

Longtime Bristol Township Harry S. Truman High School teacher Lou Volpe is being honored with the first-ever 'MTI Lifetime Achievement Award for Theatre Education' by Music Theatre International (MTI), one of the world's largest licensors of Musical Theatre. Mr. Volpe is retiring from teaching after 44 years. The award will be presented by MTI's Senior Operations Officer, John Prignano today, March 9 prior to a performance of Godspell.
