BIO
Lisa Gutkin is the Grammy Award-winning violinist, singer and songwriter of the Klezmatics. She played in Sting's The Last Ship, had a cameo appearance in "Sex and the City," and is a MacDowell Fellow. Lisa appears on hundreds of recordings including From Here On In, a CD of her original songs produced by John Lissauer, and Play Klezmer Fiddle!, an instructional DVD. She has co-authored songs with Woody Guthrie, Anne Sexton, and Maggie Dubris, and composed for symphony orchestra, dance, and film.

Direct from sold-out New York performances at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and a subsequent Off-Broadway run at Manhattan’s Classic Stage Company, the acclaimed production, Our Class, written by Polish playwright Tadeusz Słobodzianek, and helmed by Ukrainian-born Jewish director Igor Golyak, will perform a limited engagement at A.C.T.’s Strand Theater

It is a chilling reminder of the hardships of life, the capricious nature of humankind and the cruelty to which people are still subjected today. And that, quite frankly, is why you should make it a point to see Nashville Repertory Theatre’s stunning production of Indecent, which is at once warmly amusing, heartbreakingly authentic and horrifically prescient more than a century after many of the events depicted took place.

Paula Vogel's Tony Award-winning 2015 play, Indecent, will premiere at Putney, Vermont's Next Stage Arts on the heels of AAPI Heritage Month and kicking off Jewish Heritage Month. The production is directed and choreographed by multi-hyphenate artist Ellie Handel and features the original score written and arranged by Lisa Gutkin and Aaron Halva.
