The Bessies Announce Recipients of the 2017 NY Dance and Performance Awards
The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of the 2017 award recipients tonight at the 33rd annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Awards were presented in the categories of Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition/Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design, with additional awards presented for Lifetime Achievement in Dance and Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance. Company of Angels Debuts THIS LAND by Evangeline Ordaz
A deep, painful, joyful story about one extended California family with roots in different parts of the world, who make their home on the same plot of Southern California land over 150 years. Los Angeles native and Mexican-American playwright, Evangeline Ordaz, crafts a rich and complex web of diverse characters from Los Angeles' Latino, African-American, Anglo, and Native American communities who co-exist as if time were a wheel that constantly doubles back on itself. Through triumph and despair these families discover how deeply they are rooted in the dreams of their ancestors and the land on which they stand. Directed by Company of Angels artistic director, Armando Molina, This Land debuts on October 20, at Company of Angels, Los Angeles' oldest professional theater.
The Bessie Awards Announces 2017 Nominees
The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2016?17 season at the Bessies press conference. The nominees were selected by the Bessie Awards Selection Committee, an independent committee of 38 dance industry professionals. Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revived Work, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design. The list of nominations follows.
Soaking WET Dance Series Returning to West End Theater, 2/4-7
The Soaking WET dance series, curated by David Parker and Jeff Kazin, returns to the West End Theater with two performances daily, February 4-7, showing all world premieres by choreographers Garnet Henderson and Kai Kleinbard (early shows), and the Barkin/Selissen Project (later performances). The charming and friendly West End Theater is located on the 2nd floor of the Church at 263 West 86th Street (corner of 86th & West End).
BAAD's Annual Women's Fest Begins March 12
The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance forges forward with the 15th annual BAAD!ASS WOMEN FESTIVAL, celebrating the empowerment of women through art, culture and performance. The festival includes evenings of dance, theatre, film, poetry and performance, and begins with a special dance master class on March 9 and opens on Thursday, March 12, 2015 with a scorching evening of poetry and stories of lesbian love.

New York Live Arts will present Fresh Tracks, the latest installment of the Fresh Tracks Performance and Residency Program, December 19 - 21 at 7:30pm.
