Leighann Kowalsky began her performance training at the age of 5 in gymnastics and traditional Irish dance. Selecting to remain non-competetive, and rather, a performance Irish dancer, it is with the Solas An Lae School of Irish Dance that she spent 13 years honing her skills. During that time, Leighann extended her education into the realm of contemporary and modern dance, studying Erick Hawkins and David Parson’s style dance. Other pursuits of further dance education included stints at Jacob’s Pillow and Alvin Ailey, and included performances at Jacob’s Pillow, 92nd Street Y, Symphony Space Theater, The Irish Consulate in New York City, Citi field Stadium, to name a few, and included multiple international tours with Celtic rock band “Ceili Rain”. After spending several years in the Solas An Lae Irish Dance Company, Leighann continues to spend time working with Joel Hanna, director of J-Han Dance, on ground-breaking irish dance rhythm and choreography. Further, she has begun her own dance endeavor, The D’amby Project, to educate and encourage young dancers and artists to excel and further their dance careers in both Irish dance and contemporary dance.
