The Academy Invites 842 To Membership; 50% Are Women

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 842 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. The 2019 class is 50% women, 29% people of color, and represents 59 countries. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2019.

The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today unveiled its feature film lineup. Continuing its tradition of elevating exceptional storytelling rooted in today's global film communities, the 18th annual Festival will showcase debut works from emerging talent and new works from notable filmmakers. The program includes discoveries, comedies, music-centered, political and social films. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

To close the Festival, Tribeca will World Premiere The Fourth Estate, from Oscar®-nominated director Liz Garbus, which follows The New York Times' coverage of the Trump administration's first year. The Centerpiece Gala will be the World Premiere of Drake Doremus' sci-fi romance Zoe starring Ewan McGregor, Lea Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Theo James. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the fall of Apartheid in South Africa, BRIC is pleased to present a screening of Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony(2002) at the Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival, which is presented by Squarespace, on July 25. The screening is part of the Festival's Music & Movies series, which pairs live music with iconic films projected onto the Festival's enormous screen - the largest outdoor screen in New York City. South African musician Neo Muyanga will kick off the event at 7:30 P.M with a live performance of his score to William Kentridge's short film Second-hand Reading (2013). The evening is free to the public (with a suggested $3 contribution at the gate).

The Producers Guild of America (PGA), announced today that critically acclaimed documentary feature BULLY will be honored with the 2013 Stanley Kramer Award at the 24th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony.
