Training: Layla trained at the Royal Ballet School where she created the role of The Bird in Matthew Hart’s Peter and the Wolf. After graduating from the Upper School, she furthered her studies at London Studio Centre, gaining a BA Honours degree. She danced Liberty Bell in Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes, coached by Dame Alicia Markova (European premiere, Images of Dance).
Dance includes: her professional debut as Young Aurora in Sleeping Beauty (Kirov Ballet Company), Cinderella (Royal Ballet Company), Fireworks (Ballet Ireland UK and Ireland tour), dancing with Adam Cooper and Oxana Panchenko in Peter Darrell’s Jeux (gala), Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Giselle and Romeo and Juliet (English National Ballet Company), Sleeping Beauty, Carmen, Cheating Lying Stealing, Pennies from Heaven, Rubies, In Light and Shadow, The Nutcracker, Spring Season Fairy in Cinderella and Dormouse in Alice (Scottish Ballet Company) and working with Will Tuckett on a performance at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles (Royal Opera House and Van Cleef & Arpels collaboration).
Theatre includes: a lead role in The Ragged Child (National Youth Music Theatre UK tour, New York and Canada) and she rejoined NYMT for Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver! (Edinburgh Fringe).
Film and television include: Poirot: The Dumb Witness, The South Bank Show, Blue Peter, Ballet Russes, Madonna in Filth & Wisdom, Margot and 3D feature film Streetdance.
Other work includes: commercials for Marriott Hotel, Global Pursuit and Conde Nast awards ceremonies and Ertuident (Culture Channel). Layla has taught privately and at many dance schools (in England and Australia) between performance work and she established Dunsford Performing Arts over 12 years ago (running annual summer courses and offering Days of Dance).
