Lauren Pastorek is a native Houstonian. After graduating Summa cum Laude from Eastman School of Music with a Bachelors of Music and receiving her Masters of Music from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, she moved to New York City, where she enjoyed a career in musical theatre and opera.
In her varied career, Lauren starred Off-Broadway in the original cast of The Marvelous Wonderettes, performed in three National Broadway Tours, was featured on the stage of the Kennedy Center, performed lead roles in numerous regional houses, sailed the high seas as a showgirl, collaborated with composers and premiered several new works in NYC, and appeared in productions at NYC's Town Hall, Symphony Space, the New Amsterdam, and the Palace Theatres, as well as with Encores! at City Center. Her favorite past roles include Ulla in The Producers, Gloria in Boeing-Boeing, Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress, Xerxes in Handel's Xerxes, and Mr. Potato Head! As a Resident Artist with The Opera Company of Brooklyn, Lauren sang the roles of Dorabella in Così Fan Tutte, Bradamante in Alcina, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, and Giulietta in The Tales of Hoffmann. She was recently a guest recitalist at the National Opera Center in New York City, where she performed her solo concert, Women on Top. Lauren premiered her original solo opera cabaret, Lend Me a Soprano, at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina alongside their production of Lend Me A Tenor, in which she played the role of Diana. Also at home in operetta, Lauren performed the role of Celia in Iolanthe with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. She spent several summers singing with the Ohio Light Opera, where she performed in nearly 40 operettas and musicals. She is featured on several OLO recordings, including The Yeomen of the Guard as Phoebe, Autumn Maneuvers as Treszka, Blossom Time as Hedy, and Gold and Silver: Celebrating 25 Years of Ohio Light Opera, singing Meg Brockie from Brigadoon.
Lauren was the very first grand prize winner of the prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition, held annually by the Kurt Weill Foundation. Additionally, she had the honor of singing for Philip Glass as the mezzo soloist in the midwest premiere of his Choral Symphony No. 5.
