Lauren is ecstatic to perform as Nachum/Yussel/Ensemble in the 2021-2022 Broadway National Tour of "Fiddler on the Roof". After a competitive selection and interview process, Lauren was chosen as a 2020 William R. Kenan Fellow at Lincoln Center Education. She will spend seven months in NYC receiving practical knowledge and experience as an arts educator, as well as developing an original work premiering in NYC in early 2022. Lauren was also specially awarded the 2020 Artpreneur Grant to bring her latest creation, “Intruder”, to various dance festivals around the world.
While completing her BFA in Contemporary Dance with an Arts Entrepreneurship minor at the UNCSA, Lauren Blair Smith had the privilege to perform works by critically acclaimed choreographers, such as Anouk Van Dijk, Ranko Bogosavac, Kelly Maxner, Grady McLeod Bowman, Larry Keigwin, Martha Graham, José Limón, Ming-Lung Yang, and more. She also worked with Shannon Gillen, Victor Quijada, Mari Meade, Charlotte Griffin, and Krisha Marcano. Lauren performed in the UNCSA School of Drama productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Still Life with Rocket, Mollye Maxner’s Helen Hayes Award-winning devised theatre piece in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She grew up in Singapore where she discovered her love for the visual and performing arts at the Singapore American School. As the youngest contestant, Lauren finished third overall and top female on Dance Singapore Dance, a TV show aired in over 18 countries. Her choreography was featured internationally at the IASAS Cultural Convention Festivals in Jakarta, Singapore, and Taipei. She trained at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Yale Summer Conservatory for Actors, Boston Conservatory (Musical Theater), Limón Dance Company, Boston Dance Theater, Ate9, and Joffrey Ballet School in Florence, Italy.
As an ArtistCorps ArtsEngage Member, Lauren provided arts instruction, integration, and exposure to Title I school-aged children in the Winston-Salem community. Old Salem’s Hidden Town Initiative commissioned her for a dance film, “Parapo”, and it was screened at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Lauren starred as the lead in “Tanglefoot”, a UNCSA film selected for the Austin Film Festival 2018, Monadnock International Film Festival 2018, Longleaf Film Festival 2019, and Real to Reel Film Festival 2019. She also choreographed, performed, and understudied at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre. She is available for private dance instruction, teaching classes, acting/dance/performance work, and choreography.
