VIDEO: Watch Oneika Phillips, Lillias White and More Come Together to Spread Joy with FELA!

It's been over a decade since Fela! first took Broadway by storm, and still, in 2020, its cast is united and making a difference. Oneika Phillips, who starred in the 2012 return engagement, put out a call to her cast mates to come together for the #DontRush Challenge. 'It evolved into an even more meaningful project with layers of celebration such as aligning with the ten-year anniversary of the show's 11 Tony nominations, including Sahr as Fela and Lillias White as Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. A decade ago, we were at the height of breaking ceilings and blowing minds on Broadway,' writes Phillips.

BWW Reviews: SEE HOW THEY RUN at Encore Theatre Company

There is a huge difference between unbridled enthusiasm and the completely undisciplined free-for-all on display in Encore Theatre Company's production of Philip King's classic stage comedy See How They Run. Clearly, the cast's overzealous approach to the show was warmly received by a large part of the audience (many of whom leapt to their feet at curtain to give the actors an ovation), but there is no doubt many people left the theater, scratching their heads and wondering, 'what the hell was that all about?'
First Night's Top Ten of 2010: Nashville's Best Choreographers

Think about it: What if you were watching The King and I and when Anna and the King of Siam started to sing 'Shall We Dance' and they just stood there, it just wouldn't have much of an impact, would it? Or if all those budding chorus members in A Chorus Line just stood around and talked about dancing but never did even the most basic shuffle-ball-change...sounds pretty bleak, doesn't it? That's where choreographers come into the picture; they collaborate with the director, the music director and the cast members to create movement that elevates every musical comedy. Without them, the action remains stagebound and static. A choreographer allows your heart to soar along with the performers onstage, making musical comedy all the more compelling and transformative. These talented men and women created remarkable and memorable work in 2010 as First Night's Top Choreographers...

BWW Reviews: GroundWorks Theatre's FAT PIG at Darkhorse Theatre

Amanda Lamb gives such a stunningly real performance as the heroine in Neil Labute's Fat Pig - now onstage at Nashville's Darkhorse Theatre in a well-paced and sensitively directed production from Paul J. Cook for GroundWorks Theatre - that it's hard not to confuse the actress and her character or to know where one ends and the other begins.

Amanda Lamb, most recently seen in Sanders Family Christmas at Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre, stars as Helen, with Michael Coursey (Fiddler on the Roof and La Traviata in New Orleans) as Tom. Wilhelm Peters (Boiler Room Theatre's Picasso at the Lapin Agile) and Lauren Atkins (Circle Players' Titanic, Nashville Dinner Theatre's Swing) round out the cast. Paul J. BWW Reviews: 'SWING!' at Senior Center for the Arts

As good as Swing! is - and it is very good despite some dangerously frightening near-misses and a rather frenetic pace - one thing bothers me: Why did Adams-Johnson, borrowing a journalistic reference, bury her lead in the middle of the second act? Every journalism student learns in News Writing 101 that you never want to bury your lead; you want the most pertinent bit of information in your first paragraph. In the case of Swing!, you're offered tantalizing glimpses of the story's lead as soon as the curtain opens, but the show doesn't deliver the goods until well into the show's second hour.
