Jean Cocteau's ORPHEE Viewed Through Unique Lens Of Deaf West Theatre
Orpheus, Eurydice, a trouble-making horse and Death herself converge in a very funny and irreverent reimagining of the Greek myth by surrealist poet, playwright and filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Deaf West Theatre views Cocteau's whimsical, magical and highly visual play, first performed in 1926, through a unique lens: translated from the French into Spoken English by John Savacool, into American Sign Language by Andrew Moore, and slated for a run at the True Colors Festival in Tokyo, Japan at the end of April. Deena Selenow directs Orphée in a visiting production at the Odyssey Theatre, opening March 13 for a four-week run through April 5. Three low-priced previews are set for March 8, March 11 and March 12.

The live-action theatrical experience designed to support science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) based learning, offers families a live-action musical along with a pre-show lobby experience, including augmented reality (AR) games, hands-on activities, and meet and greets with favorite PBS KIDS characters. The Gary Plays - Extended through June 10: Fans of seminal playwright and Padua Hills Playwrights Festival founder Murray Mednick are in for a treat: Open Fist Theatre Company presents Mednick's entire "The Gary Plays" series in one epic production. Originated by Padua Playwrights and developed in workshops over a two-year period by Open Fist, "The Gary Plays" chronicles the odyssey of unemployed actor Gary Bean in the years following the random murder of his son. An everyman/anti-hero, Gary has been hailed by KCRW as "a sort of L.A. Leopold Bloom." Audiences can choose to follow his journey over the course of three evenings - or view all six plays on a single Sunday.
