Cast Announced for New Brooklyn Theater's Site-Specific THE DEATH OF BESSIE SMITH, 1/9-19
New Brooklyn Theater has announced casting today for its site-specific production of Edward Albee's The Death of Bessie Smith at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn. This rare revival will run for eight performances between January 9 and 19, 2014. Each performance will be followed by talkbacks or panel discussions with leaders in the arts, government, labor, and health. These discussions are intended to raise critical questions about health access, race, class, and the arts in New York.
VALLEY OF SHADOWS AND DREAMS, MASHA'ALLAH AND OTHER STORIES Win California Book Awards
Two Heyday books have garnered California Book Awards from the Commonwealth Club. Ken Light and Melanie Light earned the Gold Medal for Contribution to Publishing for their photographic and literary exploration of California's Central Valley, Valley of Shadows and Dreams. Heyday's James D. Houston Award winner Mariah K. Young earned a Silver Medal for First Fiction for her debut collection set in East Oakland, Masha'allah and Other Stories.

NYMF Announces Readings and Partner Events
