Laura J Axelrod is a writer, playwright and actor. Her plays and monologues have been performed in the United States and Europe. In New York, audiences saw and heard her work at the Collective Unconscious, Raw Impressions Musical Theatre, Raw Impressions Dance Theatre, Westside Rhyme, The Red Room and Dixon Place.
In California, her play “Everybody In This House” was produced at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. It was also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. The script is available through Original Works Publishing. Her prose poem, “Along Molasses Trail” served as the text for a dance performance at Venue 9 and A Voice of Her Own: Women’s Theatre Festival.
A recent play, “Kiss,” was a semi-finalist in the Warner International Playwrights Festival. Another play, “Britt Marlowe,” received Honorable Mention in The Second Annual Ohio State Newark New Play Contest.
As an actress, she has performed in New York City, California and Europe.
She graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts with an MFA and BFA in Dramatic Writing. She received the John L. Golden Award for Playwright with Most Potential, the Rod Marriott Senior Playwriting Award and the Babette Ashby Foundation Scholarship.
Her articles have appeared in The Birmingham News (Ala) and al.com. Newhouse News Service distributed her reviews, which were subsequently published in newspapers across the country. She was curator and writer at The Clyde Fitch Report. She also created The Marbury Project, a column that explored gender inequality and the arts.
