Off Strip Productions, The Onyx's resident theatre company, presents Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati) by Larry Larson and Eddie 'Levi' Lee - the esteemed authors of Blood Orgy of the Chainsaw Chorus Line. The limited run begins tonight, April 16, at The Onyx in Commercial Center and plays through May 2. The show is directed by Producing Director Troy Heard and features Taylor Hanes and former Artistic Director Brandon Burk.

Karla Jennings, Theroun Patterson Take Top Honors in Essential Theatre's 2014 Playwriting Competition

Essential Theatre has just announced Theroun Patterson and Karla Jennings as co-winners of the 2014 Playwriting Competition. 'It's taken us a long while to come to a decision this year,' observes Peter Hardy, Founding Artistic Director of the theatre, 'because of the large number of strong submissions we received. But we feel that both of these plays are worthy of the prizes and will be excellent contributions to our Festival this summer.' Both playwrights will receive a $600 cash prize and a full production in this summer's Essential Theatre Festival.

The play, directed by Horizon Co-Artistic Director Lisa Adler, is inspired by the Clarkston, Georgia community where thousands of refugees have been resettled over the last decade. In addition to the production, Horizon is partnering with more than 20 local organizations to bring this story to life through post-show discussions, opportunities to meet the people who inspired the play, special events, and a marketplace for refugee-made goods.
