BWW Review: RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA at Virginia Repertory Theatre Delights All Ages
Virginia Rep's all-ages show for the holiday season is 'Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella,' a gently updated retelling of the fairytale. Originally written for television in 1957, the musical has had several stage and TV productions, and eventually a rewrite by Douglas Carter Beane (author of last season's 'Sister Act' at Virginia Rep). The retooled version played Broadway for two years, earning several Tony nominations and a Tony win for costume design.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time opens Friday, September 21st, and runs through Sunday, October 14th, with two preview performances on Wednesday, September 19th and Thursday, September 20th. It is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Mark Haddon.

Richmond Triangle Players continues its 25th Anniversary Season with a production of Caryl Churchill's gender-bending comedy Cloud 9. A sex farce that is really more about sexual politics, the production opens Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 8 pm, following a low-priced preview on Wednesday, September 27. The production runs through October 21.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of the Tony-nominated play Airline Highway, by playwright Lisa D'Amour today, January 27 on the Arenstein Stage at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street. The play runs through February 12 with preview performances on Wednesday and Thursday, January 25 and 26. Set in post-Katrina New Orleans and echoing the spontaneity and rich texture of jazz, this gritty comedy celebrates the colorful, fractured characters that define the city's spirit. D'Amour, a fifth-generation New Orleans native, was a Pulitzer finalist for her work on Detroit. She was commissioned to write Airline Highway in 2014 for Steppenwolf Theatre Company. The show made its Broadway debut in 2015 and earned four Tony Nominations.

Bruce Ward Joins SPARC as Playwright in Residence; Students Set for 2015 'New Voices' Program
Working closely with New York City based professional playwright Bruce Ward, eight high school student playwrights from across the Commonwealth will bring their original one-act plays to life on the stage at the 26th Annual New Voices for the Theater Festival of New Works, held July 10 & 11, 2015 at Shafer St. Playhouse at Virginia Commonwealth University (221 N. Shafer St). 150 plays were submitted to SPARC - School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community this year and eight resident winners and four honorable mentions were chosen.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Harper Lee's classic To Kill A Mockingbird at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, September 27 with a Preview on Thursday, September 26. The show runs through October 20, 2013. Long recognized as one of the most influential works of fiction on the criminal justice system, To Kill a Mockingbird and the role of Atticus Finch have impacted lawyers for decades. In recognition of this legacy, Virginia Rep will partner with Leadership Metro Richmond and its members from the legal community to support student matinees for middle and high school students. LMR members from the legal community will facilitate talkbacks with the cast after student matinees and three Friday evening performances. The Honorable Cleo E. Powell, Supreme Court Justice of Virginia, the Honorable Catherine Hammond, Chief Judge of the Henrico Circuit Court, and Kimberly C. MacLeod from Hunton & Williams are among those addressing students.
