While many are unaware of him, Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz 'Witkacy' (1885-1939) was a prolific Dramatist, Poet, Novelist, Painter, Photographer, Art Theorist and Philosopher; one of the most colourful personalities of twentieth-century Poland. While his work stretches far and wide, a hugely insightful new book provides us with a consideration of Witkacy's artwork, philosophy and theatre together in one definitive collection. September 18th will mark the 75thanniversary of the day he took his own life, the same day the Russians invaded Poland from the east.

Last night, Monday, May 10, The New Group opened their latest production of The Kid. This marks the final production in The New Group's current 2009-2010 season, which featured Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and most recently, the hit revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind, directed by Ethan Hawke. The Kid plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through May 29 at The New Group @ Theatre Row. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night after party arrivals.

The Triad and Lee Summers hosted the 'Just A Piano Open Mic Launch: A Benefit For Haiti' last night, January 31st. The 'Just A Piano' concept broadened for this series inviting singers to also bring accompanists or pre-recorded tracks, musical instruments or play on The Triad's recently refurbished baby grand. All proceeds from the event were donated to The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and The American Red Cross.
