Review: SPRING AWAKENING at City Theatre Company
by Greer Firestone - Dec 18, 2024
City Theatre remains true to its mission with a stunning, joyous, provocative rock n roll SPRING AWAKENING. This story ain’t OKLAHOMA!, wherein the greatest tension was who was going to take Laurey to the Box Social. Or is it anywhere akin to MARY POPPINS, the fantastic and fantastical show I saw the following night at WDL
Review: DANCING AT LUGHNASA at City Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Apr 20, 2024
Celebrating its 30th year as Delaware’s off-Broadway theatre, City Theatre delivers DANCING IN LUGHNASA, a stunning tour de force in ensemble acting, direction (Mary Catherine Kelley), linguistics/dialect (Michael Toner), scenic design (Rick Neidig) and every musical and technical aspect imaginable. The production was greeted with a Standing O opening night; a deserving distinction indeed.

BWW Review: TWELFE NIGHT at Arden Shakespeare Gild
by Greer Firestone - Jun 15, 2018
Shakespearean stars were aligned this season with not one but two TWELFTH NIGHTS, staged earlier in the year at UD Rep Ensemble and presently in the sylvan fields of Arden.
TWELFTH NIGHT Opens Under The Stars On Arden's Village Green
by BWW
News Desk - Jun 8, 2018
One of the most popular and enduring of Shakespeare's comedies, Twelfth Night invites the audience to Illyria. In this production, a Mediterranean resort where the usual elements of Shakespearean comedy appear: twins, mistaken identity, cross-dressing, and music. It also offers a sufficiently evil villain, Malvolio, who earns his comeuppance in the end at the hands of a trio of alcohol-fueled mischief makers. Love arises, falls, and rises again to the tunes of original music and a singing Feste, the clown.

BWW Previews: LIZZIE at City-Theater
by Greer Firestone - Aug 2, 2017
Of course, City-Theatre would be THE group to premiere LIZZIE, a sizzling rock opera based on the 19th century legend surrounding notorious accused murderess Lizzie Borden.
Four women. 1 rock band. 40 whacks.
Year after year this band of theatrical malcontents/troubadours continue to entertain and engage audiences with their vanguard productions, bizarre creative staging and in your face audience interaction.
BWW Review: AFTER BIRTH OF A NATION at City-Theater
by Greer Firestone - Feb 17, 2017
Co-founder and Director Michael Gray has created an admirable culture at City-Theater. The group takes risks with most every production. Well one supposes they should for their mission statement is to 'rid the planet (not just Wilmington!) of complacency, redundancy, indifference and FEAR'.
