University Music Society Announces 2017/18 Season
The University Musical Society (UMS) announces its 2017-18 season, which runs from September 2017 through April 2018. The season features 66 live performances by 43 different artists and ensembles; a schedule of HD theater broadcasts will be announced later.
UMCU Endows New Arts Adventures Program with $1.5 Million Gift to UMS & UMMA
The University of Michigan Credit Union (UMCU) has invested $1.5 million to create the University of Michigan Credit Union Arts Adventures Program at the University Musical Society(UMS) and the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA). The gift ensures that UMS and UMMA will provide thousands of Southeast Michigan community members and U-M students and faculty with extraordinary access to a diverse array of arts offerings including performances by world-renowned artists, hands-on art making workshops, and engaging events each year.

This weekend found the New York Philharmonic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for the inaugural performance residency of its five-year partnership with the University Musical Society of the University of Michigan, in conjunction with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Alan Gilbert led the Orchestra in works by Beethoven, Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Richard Strauss; David Newman led the score to On the Waterfrontas the complete film was screened; Philharmonic musicians led master classes; and Alan Gilbert conducted a thousand — Philharmonic brass plus the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Alumni Band, and UMS Choral Union — at the Michigan Homecoming football game halftime show. The New York Philharmonic and UMS Launch Five-Year Residency Partnership Starting in 2015
The University Musical Society of the University of Michigan and the New York Philharmonic have announced an ambitious five-year residency partnership, beginning with concerts and activities in October 2015. The partnership is the centerpiece of a larger program bringing three different orchestras to Ann Arbor's Hill Auditorium each season. Each residency will include multi-performance residencies, master classes and workshops for University of Michigan students, and activities for the regional community.
