BWW Blog: Local Arts Organizations Pivot to New Models - Frosty's World #2

My fellow Arts Management majors and other students at Baldwin Wallace University scored a day off of classes to attend the sixth annual Arts Innovation Summit sponsored by our University and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture (CAC).
Upstream Artists' Collective and Brooklyn Yard present THIS ONE TIME IN NATURE

Gathered around a small fire, Upstream Artists' Collective, Brooklyn Yard, and Climate Change Theatre Action (CCTA) invite audiences to contemplate our relationship with the larger things in life while sipping cocktails and noshing on s'mores. With work from artists curated by the CCTA and from Upstream and Brooklyn Yard, audiences will spend a fall evening in a backyard in Bushwick with music, letter writing, and theater-like things.

The Flea Premieres TAKE CARE, Previews Begin Dec 1

The Flea Theater presents TAKE CARE, by Niegel Smith and Todd Shalom. This world premiere production marks Smith's directorial debut at his new artistic home and will feature The Bats, the resident acting company at the Flea. Previews start December 1 with Opening Night slated for Sunday, December 6.
TOILET FIRE to Run 10/29-11/14 at Abrons Arts Center

Toilet Fire: Rectums in the Rectory is Eliza Bent's ceremony and celebration of the one thing that unites us all: our need to go. Using the structure of an ancient religious ritual to talk about matters of digestion, philosophy, and faith, Toilet Fire written and performed by Bent, with direction by Kevin Laibson and music accompaniment by Alaina Ferris, explodes with song, story, audience participation, and unexpected textual twists.
New Theatre Project Extends POOKIE GOES GRENADING thru 5/5

The New Theatre Project announces a one week extension to its final performance of Pookie Goes Grenading by JC Lee. Originally scheduled to close of April 28, TNTP has added Friday, May 3, Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5 to the lineup and postponed its special closing night of the show and company celebration to May 5. All shows will be at 8 pm. And due to a huge demand and having to turn people away at the door, buying tickets in advance is highly recommended.

The New Theatre Project continues its successful third season with a return to contemporary reworkings from the classical theater canon. 'We spent many months last year searching through anthologies and old books looking for just the right play to take on,' says Artistic Director Keith Paul Medelis. 'Eventually we came to look at Edward II published in 1593. It is not frequently produced but there is magic in it.' Edward the Second will play tonight, March 1-31.

"His plays are magical," says Artistic Director Keith Paul Medelis, "There is a delicious theatricality and poetry to all of them that makes them a treat for any company. We are very happy to serve these plays with their first outing."

The New Theatre Project has announced an extension of Halloween festivities and its hugely successful adaptation of Woyzeck. Woyzeck will play four additional performances on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 with shows on both nights at 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm.

In fact, most of the action will take place below the stage in the depths of the basement, the original mid-nineteenth century foundation filled with remnants from the early days of the opera house at the corner of Michigan and Washington. Audience members will travel through this immersive production running from tonight, October 18-November 4.

The New Theatre Project is gearing up for a major change. In the aptly named Season 3: Reinvention, TNTP introduces new staff members, new branding, a new website, a new mission statement, a new free theater program, and an entirely new season of work.

But the Ensemble is concocting another project, set for today, June 1 through June 3 at 8 pm. The evening will be a concert of new work to feature original songs and spoken word material. The Ensemble of The Tempest Project will also perform pieces regarding their experience with the show, musings on the mixed blessings of failure, and ultimately performing some select material they have written for the play that we will never see.
