Kate Rankine is a librettist and director originally from Canberra, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Primary Education - specializing in the Creative Arts - from the University of Canberra, and was a music and drama teacher in Canberra from 2019 to 2022. She moved to New York City in the fall of 2022 to pursue her MFA at NYU Tisch in Musical Theatre Writing, graduating in May 2024. Kate is invested in creating new work that is accessible, equitable and that highlights the beauty and simplicity of human connection. Current projects include Pompeii – a new musical with music by Evelio Sotolongo, Unmarried and Without Survivors – a one-woman play sharing the untold story of Golden Age dance arranger Trude Rittman, and new musical Blood is Thicker written with Vaheed Talebian, a selection of songs of which were recently performed at The Green Room 42.
