BWW Review: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES: The Best of Times at Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston
In the summer of 1983, Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein put on a show that was light years ahead of the zeitgeist, vis-a-vis the awareness and acceptance of LGBTQ people in America, and about twenty years before the legalization of same-sex marriage. Yet, after a successful tryout at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, they boldly went where no Broadway musical had gone before when they opened LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at the Palace Theatre on August 21, 1983. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston concludes its 51st Summer Season with LA CAGE, and I am pleased to report that the show continues to stand the test of time. The three most important components for a successful staging of this musical are the two actors who play the leading men, Georges (J.T. Turner) and Albin (James Darrah), and the dance troupe who comprise Les Cagelles, the drag performers at the Saint-Tropez title nightclub owned by the latter couple, and they collectively win the trifecta.
APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH Opens In December At The Gallery Players
This December, Gallery Players is pleased to present APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH by Agatha Christie, an entertaining murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. In this adapted version of the 1938 detective novel of the same name, Christie created an entirely new ending. Featuring a group of travelers who find themselves thrown together on a Middle Eastern expedition, the 'Queen of Crime' offers a unique take on the classic murder mystery, where characters' motivations are suspect and relationships may not be what they seem. First performed at the Piccadilly Theatre in London on March 31, 1945, APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH remains fresh and exciting today.

Photo Coverage: Sheldon Margery & Matt Harnick Host Book Launch Party
The 90th Macy's Day parade balloons will not pass by the Friars Club on 55th street but the celebrity guests at the club got to see some great photos of them yesterday at the club. Sheldon and Margery Harnick hosted a Book Launch Party for Matt Harnick who has a wonderful new book © Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: A New York City Holiday Tradition, Rizzoli N.Y. 2016, which is filled with exclusive photography by Matt, along with archival images of the spectacular floating balloons. The book offers a never-before-seen look at the planning and preparation of the parade. Italy features text by Stephen M. Silverman, Foreword by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Afterword by Terry J. Lindgren, Chairman & CEO of Macy's Inc. in conjunction with this milestone anniversary. The guests in the Milton Berle Room of the Friars Club were also treated to a performance by Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin and a conversation with Sheldon Harnick, Matt Harnick and Amy Kule, Executive Producer of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was a great afternoon and it was nice and warm watching the parade go by inside the club.

Photo Coverage: Inside Steve Tyrell's Opening Night at Cafe Carlyle
Last night Cafe Carlyle welcomed back GRAMMY Award-winner Steve Tyrell for a four-week engagement and BroadwayWorld was there for opening night. The renowned singer returns with a new show, One More For The Road, featuring a full set of Sinatra favorites in celebration of Ol' Blue Eyes' 100th birthday. It's a fitting tribute since it was actually a Sinatra song, 'The Way You Look Tonight,' that Tyrell sang in the 1991 movie, Father of the Bride, which launched his career as a singer. Years later, the Sinatra family handpicked Tyrell to perform 'Fly Me To The Moon' at the Hollywood Bowl, with Quincy Jones conducting the orchestra, when the Chairman was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2005. Tyrell's ties to the Sinatra family remain tight as he was once again asked to host a three-hour celebration on Siriusly Sinatra on Frank's actual birthday, December 12. He will be live from Patsy's for Sirius XM radio, just as he did in 2014.
