MARY POPPINS RETURNS, CRAZY RICH ASIANS Among HUMANITAS Prize Nominees
Fifty-eight film and television writers have been named finalists for The 44 th Annual HUMANITAS Prize, it was announced today by HUMANITAS Executive Director Cathleen Young and President Ali LeRoi. The writers are nominated for their work in the 30-minute Comedy, 60-minute Drama, Children's Teleplay, Independent Feature Film, Drama Feature Film, Comedy Feature Film, Family Feature Film and Documentary categories. The HUMANITAS Prize was created to honor film and television writers whose work inspires compassion, hope, and understanding in the human family.

This summer, Jeremy Seghers will direct Peter Shaffer's psychological drama 'Equus." Inspired by actual events, the play tells the story of Dr. Martin Dysart, a psychiatrist, who attempts to treat a young man named Alan Strang. While wrestling with his own sense of purpose, Dysart must discover why Strang suddenly and horrifically blinded six horses.

The musical CABARET, with music by Kansas City's own John Kander and lyrics by partner Fred Ebb, opens the 2016 summer season at Theatre in the Park on Friday night, June 3. The powerful musical about life in Berlin in the 1930s as the Nazi party begins its rise to power continues through Saturday, June 5, and again the following Wednesday, June 8 through Saturday, June 11. The box office opens at 6 p.m. and the gates to the seating bowl open at 6:30 p.m.; the show begins at 8:30 p.m.
