Places Please Project Teams with The Actors Fund to Help Theatre Workers Return to NYC
New nonprofit Places Please Project has partnered with The Actors Fund to provide financial assistance to theater workers who left New York during the COVID pandemic and now need to return so they can go back to work. Founded by Lilli Cooper (Tony-nominated actor), Kyle Jarrow (Tony-nominated writer), Andrew Lippa (Tony-nominated composer), Annie Schiffmann (founder of Downstage Media) and Kara Unterberg (founder of New York SongSpace), Places Please Project is committed to helping theater workers in need at this unique moment in time.

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts announced today that Jason Robert Brown, Savion Glover, Priscilla López, Susan Stroman, Marisha Wallace, and Christopher Wheeldon have joined the growing list of Broadway stars participating in I'm Still Here: A Virtual Benefit for the Billy Rose Theatre Division, airing June 23, 2021 on Broadway On Demand at 8pm EST and 8pm PST. The fundraiser will help raise critical funds for the Library for the Performing Arts' beloved Theatre Division as it celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.

Bonnie Comley, Founder of BroadwayHD, was the guest speaker at MAESTRA's May seminar at SongSpace. Composer/lyricist and music director Georgia Stitt founded the MAESTRA organization in 2017 to give support, visibility, and community to the women who make the music in the musical theater industry. The MAESTRA membership is made up of female-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians who are underrepresented minorities in musical theater. Songwriter and composer, Kathy Sommer, moderated the seminar.

Broadway Unlocked founder Jessica Ryan announced today the seventh annual #giveback concert held Sunday, April 7, 2019 at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space raised over $51,000 for the Crime Victims Treatment Center. The evening featured new and original work, including a host of debut songs inspired by the writings of survivors who have found help at CVTC. A multitude of artists contributed their talents across the event's digital content and concert cast.

Today, The 24 Hour Plays announced that they will bring The 24 Hour Musicals to Broadway for the first time. The evening, which is in partnership with The Lillys, will pay homage to the women who are changing the landscape of American Theatre. The 24 Hour Musicals will take place on Monday, October 29th at 8:00 PM at the American Airlines Theatre in Times Square.
Composer/Singer Marisa Michelson Premieres New Work At Judson
Recognized as a leading voice in choral and musical theatre composition, composer/theatre-maker/singer Marisa Michelson is hailed for writing and/or performing profound works with a rich tapestry of complicated choral and musical stylings. Michelson's 2018 season begins February 1-3, 2018, with the world premiere of The Desire/Divinity Project, a two-part musical piece featuring Michelson and her vocal performance ensemble, Constellation Chor, live orchestration, and dance choreographed by #Mamaisamaker's Emma Crane Jaster (Loft Opera). Directed by Ethan Heard (Heartbeat Opera) and originally choreographed by Chase Brock (currently by Emma Crane Jaster), this Project was developed by Michelson while researching mind/body/spirit practices with virtuosic singing as an artist-in-residence at Judson Memorial Church. Part One: Song of Songs of Songs explores the relationship between the sensual and the sacred, the body and the spirit, through an exegesis of the Western world's oldest erotic poem, Song of Songs.

Atlantic Theater, Barrington Stage & More Among NAMT's 2016-17 New Musicals Grant Recipients
The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced eleven awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its eighth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $43,000 to twelve organizations across the country.
