BWW Review: The Thought Police are Coming for You with Radial Theater Project's 1984
Radial Theater Project is currently presenting an adaptation of George Orwell's classic dystopian nightmare a?oe1984a??, and don't even THINK about saying anything good about it. Big Brother has sent down orders from the Ministry of Truth that there is nothing good about this production and it has no good performances or redeeming qualities, and everything is un-good. But if you know anything about the Ministry of Truth, you know everything is the exact opposite there and that holds true here as this production is a spectacular, riveting telling of this horrifying story and you need to see it. Just don't tell The Thought Police I said that.

BWW Review: Absurdist Comedy OROBORO More Unsettling Than Funny at 18th and Union
Conceptual productions are tricky because you have to find that balance of being cerebral and being entertaining, especially when you market yourself as a comedy. As apart of 18th and Union's 'Oddballs and Misfits' series, Human spark plug K. Brian Neel's 'Oroboro' is a one-man acid nightmare that shows off his performing skills, but the show gets too wrapped up in being conceptual to be funny.

December at 18th & Union: an Elf, a Truck Driver, and a Guy in Red Underwear
18th & Union is pleased to announce a lineup of artistic visitations that are guaranteed to temper the icky sweetness of holiday kitsch. Three productions will run in rotating rep throughout December: The Santaland Diaries, by David Sedaris; The Slipknot, by TJ Dawe; and Emmett Montgomery's Sugar Plum Gary.
BWW Review: SNOWGLOBED at West of Lenin is Bad Kitsch
Full disclosure: I had to emotionally prepare myself for 'SnowGlobed' because, admittedly, I find most holiday pieces saccharine and disingenuous. Although collectively 'SnowGlobed's five short plays were irreverent and dark-which resonates with me much more, being the Grinch that I am-unfortunately, most of the plays did not impact me in a satisfying way.
BWW Reviews: Pony World's OR, THE WHALE Doesn't Engage
You're having a nightmare where you're taking a literature class examining "Moby Dick", it's discussion day and you haven't read the book. That's what it felt like watching Pony World Theatre Company's new production of "Or, The Whale". If there were correlations between the play and the Melville classic as advertised they were completely lost on me. So without all that foreknowledge (which their press release said was not necessary) all I got what a disjointed and drawn out look at several people's woes that ultimately had no real point.
