ELF: THE MUSICAL To Premiere at South Bend Civic Theatre
by Chloe Rabinowitz - Nov 5, 2019
This family musical brings the 2003 movie to a new level with cheerful, Christmas-infused songs. Buddy always believed he was like every other elf in Santa's workshop, despite his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities. When Buddy discovers he is actually a human, he decides to make a change. As he travels to New York City in search of his long-lost dad and his true identity, Buddy will discover many new things and save Christmas in the process. MUSIC BY MATTHEW SKLAR and CHAD BEGUELIN. Book Adapted BY BOB MARLIN AND THOMAS MERLIN.
BWW Review: OLIVER! at SOUTH BEND CIVIC THEATRE
by Braden Allison - Jul 21, 2019
To continue their tradition of producing a classic musical during the summer, the South Bend Civic Theatre presented Oliver! with a cast of more than 40 people to filled audiences. The tone of the show was instantly set with a wonderfully charming London bridge designed by Jeff Barrick. Unfortunately the tone was then smashed by a horribly electric sounding music track of the overture with trumpets that were more reminiscent of synthesizers than anything else. This confusing clash continued throughout the production leading to a mixed bag of a show. More clarification on that thought later.
BWW Review: MY FAIR LADY at South Bend Civic Theatre
by Dave Kempher - Jul 24, 2018
There are shows that I believe get rave reviews, awards, and heralded as classics because, at some point, "true theatre people" aren't allowed to not like them. If you bring up Oklahoma, Hello, Dolly, or The Sound of Music, and don't fawn over it for hours, you are expected to turn in your theatre card and walk away from all conversations thereafter. My Fair Lady, as a musical, falls into this category for me.

Review: Spend Spend Spend at the Watermill
by Robert Gould - Jul 22, 2009
Spend Spend Spend, a show that first hit the West End back in 1999 - with its tuneful score, hard-nosed but also raunchily humorous book and an emotional core that rings with human truth - is a much underrated gem of a musical. Now, in a newly forged 'actor-musician' production at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury, the gem sparkles and shines even brighter.
