Julie Danielson grew up in Kansas - originally from Wichita, but moved to Kansas City at the age of 10. She has always had a passion for musical theatre, performing both as an actor and a musician and eventually serving as a composer, arranger, music director and conductor.
She attended Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music [CCM] and earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. This program allowed her to explore multiple facets of the music world, preparing her for a life where no two days are ever the same. She moved to New York City in 2005 and is proud to be a part of the Broadway community.
She played bass in the onstage band for the First National Tour of SPRING AWAKENING and was seen playing for MTV’s reality show, "LEGALLY BLONDE: THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT ELLE WOODS." She has played for many other singers and shows in New York, including NYMF shows, many benefits with The Actors Fund and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and a number of readings and recordings of new works. In the cabaret scene, she has played at Feinstein's, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Room, Laurie Beechman, The Duplex and The Annual Cabaret Convention.
As an actress, her favorite roles include Martha in THE SECRET GARDEN, Lucy in YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, and Jen in JOHN AND JEN.
She currently serves as the Artistic Director and Resident Music Director for Music Theatre Kansas City [MTKC]. She has MD'ed over 60 shows with them and in 2008 was honored with The Julie Tree, planted in honor of her musical contributions to their organization. Professionally, Julie music directed SEUSSICAL with the Kansas City Symphony, Josh Groban's back-up chorus for his CLOSER Tour, and Spring Awakening's AIDS Benefit, "CABARET FOR A CAUSE." She has served as the music assistant for many amazing productions including, most recently, BRING IT ON (Tom Kitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alex Lacamoire) and BELLS ARE RINGING (City Center ENCORES - Rob Fisher).
In addition to her private coaching studio, she also teaches and coaches for various training programs in NYC including Broadway Evolved, the Professional Performing Arts High School, Rosie’s Broadway Kids, and the Broadway Artists Alliance.
On the other side of the table, Julie worked for a season as Bernie Telsey’s asistant (Telsey + Co Casting) and served as the East Coast Administrator for the Casting Society of America for 3 years.
She was an investor for [title of show] on Broadway and hopes to continue to be able to support new musical theatre in the coming years. She has also delved into the world of writing and premiered her first musical, The Truth... and Other Lies with her writing partner, David Gomez in 2011.
