Since its Carnegie Hall debut in 1922, The Cleveland Orchestra has performed at the Hall a total of 222 times in its 100-year history.

The Orchestra kicks off its residency on Thursday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. with OSL's first Conductor Laureate Pablo Heras-Casado, who concludes his six-year tenure as Principal Conductor. For this special event, the orchestra performs Mozart's "Great" Mass, featuring sopranos Camilla Tilling and Susanna Phillips, tenor Thomas Cooley, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir, led by Joe Miller. The program also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21.

Also on the program is Brett Dean's Testament, a moving tribute to Beethoven's life and music inspired by his 1802 "Heiligenstadt Testament," the autobiographical manifesto in which the composer came to terms with the loss of his hearing early in his career.

San Francisco Performances Appoints Melanie Smith as New President
San Francisco, CA, May 10, 2016 – San Francisco Performances today announced that 25-year arts management leader Melanie Smith will become the new President of the highly respected, 37-year-old presenting organization, succeeding founder Ruth A. Felt, who will retire this fall. Ms. Smith comes to SF Performances after serving as Executive Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, having led the $2.5 million organization since 2006. She returns to San Francisco Performances, where she served as Director of Education/Artistic Administration for nine years after positions with Carnegie Hall, the Midori Foundation and Young Concert Artists. Ms. Smith was selected after a year-long search by the SF Performances Board of Trustees and an arts management recruitment firm and will begin her new role in August.
