BIO
Judd Hirsch is an American actor with a career spanning over five decades. Born in the Bronx, New York in 1935, Hirsch began his acting career in the early 1960s, performing in Off-Broadway productions and regional theater. He made his Broadway debut in 1966 in the play "A Thousand Clowns," for which he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Hirsch continued to work on Broadway throughout the 1970s, appearing in productions such as "Knock Knock" and "Talley's Folly." In 1980, he starred in the Tony Award-winning play "I'm Not Rappaport," which also earned him a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play.
In addition to his stage work, Hirsch has had a successful career in television and film. He is perhaps best known for his role as Alex Reiger on the hit sitcom "Taxi," which aired from 1978 to 1983. For his performance on the show, Hirsch received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Hirsch has also appeared in numerous films over the years, including "Ordinary People," for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Other notable film credits include "Independence Day," "A Beautiful Mind," and "The Meyerowitz Stories."
Throughout his career, Hirsch has continued to work in theater, both on and off Broadway. In 2003, he starred in the Broadway production of "Art," which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play. He also appeared in the 2011 Broadway revival of "The Importance of Being Earnest."
In addition to his work as an actor, Hirsch has also been involved in activism and philanthropy. He has been a vocal advocate for environmental causes and has served as a board member for the Natural Resources Defense Council. He has also been involved with organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
In recent years, Hirsch has continued to work in television, appearing in shows such as "The Goldbergs" and "Forever." He also had a recurring role on the Amazon series "Transparent," for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Despite his many accomplishments, Hirsch remains humble about his success. In an interview with The New York Times, he said, "I never thought of myself as a star. I always thought of myself as a working actor. And that's what I've always tried to be."
At 86 years old, Hirsch continues to work in the entertainment industry, proving that age is just a number. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to making a difference in the world make him a true icon in both the theater world and beyond.
